Beginning Wire Working

This is a great beginning cwire-work-earringlass to find out about wire and wire working. Learn about different types of wire, gauge (sizes), which gauge to use and how to use wire working tools.  In class, you should be able to make one pair of earrings, including the earwires and a basic hook for hook and eye closure.  You should also be able to make one ring adorned with coils.  

REQUIRED SUPPLIES: Bring your own bead (6-10mm) for the center piece of the ring and two beads for your earrings.

$25 for the two hour class
Sunday 3/5/17 @ 1-3pm

Level: Beginning     Prerequisite: None         Instructor: Megan Kinmannetted-cab 

You should be able to finish these project during the class time.  If not, you will learn the techniques to finish it later.  There is no prerequisite, but some seed beading experience is useful. We will supply the needle and thread.  

In this class, you will learn how to net a beaded bezel around a cabochon.  This is a fun way to make your cabochon into a pendant without any glue.  This is a great way to start your piece and can be expanded and embellished very easily.  The back is fully beaded and looks nice enough to show in the front so you won’t mind showing it.

REQUIRED SUPPLIES: Two colors of 11/0 Delica or seed beads that match your cabochon.  One round or oval cabochon (18-25mm).

You will learn to make wrapped loops, which are more durable than simple loops because they won’t accidentally come open causing you to potentially lose your beads.  You can use this same technique for adding beads to necklaces and bracelets and making bead connectors.  You should be able to make one pair of earrings.

Kumihimo Leather Bracelet
$25 for the two hour class with the leather & clasp

Kumihimo is a Japanese form of braid making with interlacing strands, cords or ribbon.  You will find out how to do Kumihimo by braiding leather and adding some charms if you like to make an interesting bracelet.  You will also learn how to work with a Kumihimo Disk and how to finish your piece with ends and clasp.  Once you learn this technique, you can add beads to your cords before weaving and make an even more beautiful bracelet. 

REQUIRED SUPPLIES: Bring you own charms if you want to add them to the bracelet.

All to Pieces Necklace
$35 for the four hour class and $5 for the wire used in class

Prerequisite: You must be very comfortable working with wrapped loops.all-to-pieces-front all-to-pieces-pendant

This is truly a beautiful and complex looking necklace, but  will be easier than you think.  This is a design class to learn how to make different components that are connected together.   Everyone’s project will not be the same.   

REQUIRED SUPPLIES:  We supply the craft wire in five different gauges.  all-to-pieces-sideBYOB, Bring your own beads:  Two sets of larger beads and up to ten smaller beads and crystals (3mm-8mm) and a focal bead like the large blister pearl in the sample.  The beads don’t need to match, just compliment your color palette and the attitude of your piece.

Tree of Life Pendant
$25 for the two hour class

Minimum three students

The tree of life has been around or a long time, but it is still so popular and inspiring.  Using stone or glass chips, you can fashion your own leaves and the wire will make the branches and roots.  You can make your own tree of life in two hours, learn to wire wrap and use hammers, mandrels and other tools. 

REQUIRED SUPPLIES: One foot of 18 gauge craft wire and three feet of 26 gauge craft wire.  You can bring your own chips or buy one of our $1.00 bags from our chip soup.  There are over 14 choices in stones and colors.  To complete your necklace, bring a chain and closure of your choice.

Wire Wrap a Cabochon
$30 for the two hour class and includes wire used in class

Level: Beginning      Prerequisite: None     Instructor: Criss Reynolds

Do you have cabochons or undrilled slices and rocks you would love to make into pendants?  Then wire wrapping a cabochon is the class to take.   You will want to be wire wrapping everything.   Check out this beautiful class sample.  It was a Labradorite that had a big chip.  Wire wrapping covered it and turned it into this wonderful pendant. 

REQUIRED SUPPLIES: You need to bring a cabochon.  We suggest using an unusual shaped cabochon, not oval, which is harder to wire wrap.  The wire we will supply will be copper or silver plated craft wire.

Wrap Bead Bracelet

This wonderful wrap bead bracelet is still so popular.  This time we have two new versions, one is a double wrap with seed beads and a single wrap with tila and seed beads.  You should be able to finish either one of these bracelets in the class.  Once you learn this technique, you can make all types of wrap bracelets with a variety of beads and multiple wraps. 

REQUIRED SUPPLIES: Both bracelets will need a shank button for a clasp.  Make sure the button has a large enough shank for the leather to go through, at least 2mm.

Double Wrap—1/2 tube of 8/0 seed beads and 4mm fire polish that equals a strand.  You can use most left over beads around these sizes for this bracelet. 

Single Wrap with Tilas—1/2 tubeTila’s and one tube of 11/0 seed beads.

$25 for the ninety minute class with bead kit

Want another way to string your pearls or beads?   Hand knotting using silk thread is easier than you might think.  It drapes beautifully and can protect your pearls or beads from rubbing and wearing.  There are a variety of options in knotting to change the look from formal to fun and casual.   You will learn to knot silk and be able to make a pretty glass pearl necklace by taking this class.

Open Bead Design Time

Want to get together with other beaders, have fun, share ideas and get inspired?   Then join us for Open Bead Design Time.

We have room for up to six participants, so please call (360) 393-4605 to RSVP.  Bring your projects, completed or not.  Or start a new one during this time.  You need to match beads to an existing project or clothing, just bring them in and let us know.  This time is designed for you to bead with others and is not a class time with instructions.  We will do everything we can to help and as time allows we can assist you or answer your questions.  We will happily pull out any of our class room tools if you want to work with them and try sometime new.

This cuff is made with five rows wide of three different types of beads  and it makes this amazingly beautiful bracelet.    

REQUIRED SUPPLIES for 7” BRACELET:  Five feet of 1mm leather, 8” strand of 8mm round beads (at least 24), one 16” strand of 4-5mm round or rondelle beads and one 16” strand of 3-4mm round or rondelle beads and a button with large shank that can accommodate four pieces of leather or add a split ring to the shank.
